Every adoption begins with a dream. In our case, the dream goes back 20+ years.

Except at the time it seemed like more like a nightmare. It was early spring and we had just hit a brick wall.

A woman we had connected with through our adoption professional and built a relationship with over five months turned out to be a scammer.

We didn’t know to do next, whether to keep going or throw in the towel.

Then one day, on a whim, we decided to take our journey into our own hands and posted our parent profile online. This was in the late ’90s when the internet was in its infancy and the idea of connecting with expectant parents was still a bit of a long shot.

But we figured it was worth a try. After months of waiting with nothing to show for it, what did we have to lose?

And sure enough, late one night a few weeks later we got the call that would change our lives forever: a woman said she had seen our profile and wanted to know if we would adopt her baby.

At first we thought it was just another scam. But amazingly, it wasn’t, and a few weeks later we brought home our son.

Five years later, we became parents again, this time through a very open adoption match in Washington state. And 10 years after that, in 2011, we gave birth to America Adopts!

In the decade since then, we’ve helped other adoptive parents and birthparents come together just like we did. And we look forward to helping many more in the decades to come.
